Dave Evans ignites the AC/DC legacy from the raw energy of 1973 to the timeless thunder of rock ’n’ roll!

19th Nov 2025

November 2025 | Blue Pie Records USA and Ordior Media are proud to highlight the pivotal but often under-recognized role of Dave Evans, the original lead singer of AC/DC, whose early contributions helped ignite one of rock’s most explosive careers.

Born on 20 July 1953 in Carmarthen, Wales, and emigrating to Australia with his family at age five, Evans grew up in Townsville and Charters Towers before moving to Sydney. In November 1973, Malcolm Young and Angus Young recruited Evans, alongside Colin Burgess and Larry Van Kriedt, to launch AC/DC’s first line-up.

Evans’ tenure produced AC/DC’s very first single – “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl” backed with “Rockin’ in the Parlour” – released in 1974 and reaching No. 50 in Australia. Though his time with the band was brief (he left or was replaced in September 1974), Evans has always asserted that his role was vital in “starting the spark” for the band’s path.

“There would be no AC/DC without me,” Evans has declared, reflecting on his early involvement.

Following AC/DC, Evans went on to front the Australian rock band Rabbit and pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as A Hell of a Night (2000), Sinner (2004) and Judgement Day (2008).

Evans’ story stands as a reminder of the foundational phase of a band that would become legendary, and his legacy continues to inspire both fans and artists alike. His recent efforts and continued performances reaffirm that the man who “started the spark” is still very much alive in rock’s living history.
